Finalists Named in Good Neighbor Pharmacy of the Year Award

JULY 12, 2017
Dayton Drug and Wellness, St. George Pharmacy, and Haig Pharmacy have been named finalists for the 2017 Good Neighbor Pharmacy of the Year Award. The award will be presented to one winner at Good Neighbor Pharmacy’s 2017 ThoughtSpot conference and tradeshow in Las Vegas, which begins July 19.

Located in Dayton, Tennessee, Dayton Drug and Wellness is owned by Karen Needham and Jill Sullivan. Since it’s opening 6 years ago, the pharmacy has experienced a growing list of patient services with their most popular initiative being a vaccination program targeting influenza, pneumonia, and shingles in the community.

Al Gentile has owned St.George Pharmacy in Staten Island for more than 3 decades.  The pharmacy is always there to help the community, even after the chaos of Hurricane Sandy.  First-aid supplies, batteries, and medication were available to people in need of supplies when everything was closed, according to a news release about the finalists.

Haig Pharmacy, owned by Anet Gabrielyan, has served Glendale, California for 30 years.  The diversity of this community is always considered by the pharmacy, as members of the staff speak Armenian, Spanish, Farsi, Arabic, and Russian.  Minimizing the language divide has created connections among all patients and the health care providers, according to the release.

“Amid today’s fast-changing health care landscape, independent pharmacists have emerged as trusted advisors who play an increasingly important role in community care nationwide. Our finalists are shining ambassadors of the countless community pharmacists who – despite these challenges – remain focused on their primary objective: driving positive health outcomes,” Brian Nightengale, RPh, PhD, president of Good Neighbor Pharmacy added in the release.

Each finalist was chosen out of 50 nominees.  See more about the pharmacies at  or the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Facebook page.
